but this is the first cup without a handle I've found

I've seen similarly shaped brushes described both as barber's brushes

And the face on this pup really seems to express longing for company! Very sweet, with excellent red painted toenails, too! 2 3 8" t x 1 1 4" w x 2" d including tail. Though unmarked, my guess is this one was made in Japan, c. 1920s 40s.
